Building Blocks

Rome was not

Built in a day,

Nor

Is character.

A person today is,

An amalgamation

of all his yesterdays

Put together.

The undying love

Showered on him

By his parents.

The lessons of life

Learnt

From his teachers.

The silly fights

That he had

With his siblings.

The buffoonery

Enjoyed

With friends.

The movies

That he watched

Growing up.

The books

That he read

And re-read.

The places

He traveled to

Near and far.

The people

He met

By chance

Or otherwise.

Ensiform accusations

Hurled at him

By society.

Bites on the back

That hurt like hell

Manifestations of jealousy.

The shoving, the bullying,

The silent tears

That pleased his seniors.

The play of politics

That made him wary

Of his peers.

The memories

That kept him awake.

The hard work

That lulled him to sleep.

The joys the tears

The thrills the fears

The smiles the leers

The boos the cheers.

Like building blocks,

Each experience

Comes together

To shape character.

Which leads me to think,

If every person

That crosses our path

Is influenced by us

Even in the minutest way,

Then a great responsibility

Rests on our shoulders

I must say.

Treat others bad

Resulting in conspiration.

Or Treat them well

Becoming an inspiration.

The right choice

Is easier said than done.

Still, it wouldn’t hurt to try

To make goodness a habit.

You don’t want to be

That person

Who dented someone’s tomorrow.

Instead, you can be

That person

Who fixed a dent.
